Matt is an Associate at Kennedy Lenart IP, where he advises clients on patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio development, and intellectual property strategy. His practice focuses on electrical, computer, and software technologies, including wireless communications, computer architecture, graphics architecture, memory architecture, artificial intelligence, and other complex computing technologies. Since beginning his patent law career in 2022, Matt has helped clients protect innovations while aligning patent strategies with broader business objectives.
Prior to joining Kennedy Lenart IP as an Associate in June 2026, Matt served as Patent Counsel for a leading wireless technology company, where he managed a substantial portfolio of standard-essential patent (SEP) applications covering 5G and emerging 6G technologies. He prepared and prosecuted complex U.S. patent applications, developed global filing strategies, coordinated and directed outside counsel, and supported litigation readiness. His in-house experience provides valuable insight into how companies evaluate intellectual property investments and develop patent portfolios that support long-term business goals.
Before entering private practice, Matt served as a Patent Examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and as a judicial extern at a federal district court. Earlier in his career, he worked as an engineer at a technology startup, where he helped develop new technologies and gained firsthand experience with the innovation process. These experiences allow Matt to approach patent matters with an appreciation for the technical, legal, and business considerations that influence effective intellectual property protection.
Personal:
Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, and discovering new foods. One of his favorite ways to discover a new country or city is by trying a local dish with his wife and then recreating it at home, sometimes even successfully. He has a longstanding interest in history and enjoys reading biographies, exploring local history, and learning about the people, places, and events that have shaped different cultures. Matt also enjoys reading fantasy, science fiction, and other fiction, as well as grand strategy games that combine his interests in history, geography, economics, and culture.
